The Landschaftspark takes part in the Open Monument Day!
Under the motto ‘True Signs. Witnesses of History’, the Open Monument Day® will take place on 8 September 2024.
Across Germany, many thousands of monuments will once again open their doors to interested visitors. Germany's largest cultural event is coordinated every year by the German Foundation for Monument Protection.

In the ‘Gas Purification West’ in the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park, blast furnace gas produced during smelting was processed as an energy source. It is centrally located next to one of the stairways to the viewing platform of blast furnace five and is a typical industrial building from the early 1950s. The control room of the gas extraction station is now used by former plant employees. It used to control and monitor the transport of gas in interconnected pipelines between regional industrial sites.
Accompanying programme
The ‘Gas Cleaning West’ and ‘Gas Production Station Control Room’ buildings are open to the public on this day. Volunteers from the Association of Former Plant Employees and employees of today's Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park will be available to talk to and answer questions (German language only)
Guided tours
In addition to the tour of the buildings, free guided tours are offered from the gas cleaning plant to Blast Furnace 5. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20 people! (German language only)
Additional information
The buildings are largely barrier-free, but are not accessible at ground level. The images on the site map on the website or the information and site plans provided on site can be used for orientation. The staff at the gate (barrier) are also available to answer questions! For organisational reasons, participation in the additional guided tours is limited to 20 people in each case. There is a list of participants on site for visitors to sign in. It is not possible to register in advance. There are catering facilities (snack bar and restaurant), playgrounds and a wide range of leisure activities in the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park.
