Balkan Erotic Epic in the power plant of the Landscape Park Duisburg-Nord – Marina Abramović at the Ruhrtriennale 2026!

From September 3 to 9, 2026, a powerful ritual unfolds in the power station of the Landscape Park Duisburg-Nord, exploring Balkan myths, eroticism, death, and unbridled vitality. In “Balkan Erotic Epic,” Marina Abramović explores the eroticism, spirituality, and ritualism anchored in Balkan mythology in her unmistakably personal, unique, and direct performance language. In 13 parallel scenes, performance, dance, and traditional Balkan songs merge, paving the way for Abramović's “most ambitious work,” which the audience can experience in a four-hour immersive journey.

“In many ancient cultures, procreation and life itself were accompanied by numerous ceremonies that served to comprehend our existence,” says Marina Abramović. “By revisiting this largely forgotten past, I want to open up a new approach and a new perspective for today's audience.”
